Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn Don’t Need a Hashtag to Prove Their Friendship

It’s hard to read the headlines lately without hearing about squad goals and model gangs. While few would argue against the importance of girl power and solidarity, not all squads are created equal; there are those forced pairings that exist within the imaginations of publicists, and then there are true friendships. Karlie Kloss and Jourdan Dunn, who both celebrate their birthdays today, are an example of the latter. As models and businesswomen, Kloss and Dunn have become household names, but long before their shared success they were best friends. Starting their careers at roughly the same time, Kloss and Dunn met on the set of a Topshop shoot and quickly became inseparable. Sharing jokes backstage before heading out to walk high-profile shows like BalmainVersace, and Burberry, the pair contributed to the rise of the personable, social-savvy, personality-driven top models who dominate the scene today. Consider them the millennial version of the ’90s supers. You wouldn’t have Kendall and Gigi all over your social-media accounts were it not for the ground broken by Karlie, Jourdan, and their frequent cohort, Cara Delevingne.
Together, “Jourlie” has shared advertising campaigns, magazine covers, and milestones like walking the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, all while remaining close. These days, you’re likely to see them attending the Brit Awards together, or taking things full circle by sitting front row at Topshop Unique. Individually, they’re leading the new generation of supermodels with their outside-the-box personal projects—Kloss’s popular YouTube channel,Klossy, and Dunn’s cooking and travel shows—but they still make time for each other. Taking to Instagram this afternoon, Dunn summed up their lasting friendship, calling Kloss her bestie, sis, and a true inspiration—how’s that for girl power? To celebrate their shared birthday, take a look back at all the times Jourlie made us smile—on the catwalk, or behind the scenes.
